It is the medical specialisation that dealing with pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period (obstetrics) and the health of the female reproductive systems (vagina, uterus, and ovaries) and the breasts (gynecology).The study of obstetrics and gynecology, combines, the care of female reproductive system and the management during pregnancy, even though many practisers go on to develop subspecialty interests in one field or the other. The main focus of gynecology is mainly on the health and welfare of the reproductive system of the female and reproducing ability. It covers endocrinology, female urology and pelvic malignancy. The specialisation mainly includes pediatric and adolescent gynecology. Obstetrics is the specialisation of childbirth and midwifery. This mainly involves all the acute and chronic medical problems that use to complicate pregnancy. Obstetrics and gynaecology are exciting areas of research. Case studies helped in the development of many new techniques and procedures over the past 30 years and helped in transformation in the health of women and babies. Development of ultrasound has made baby care in the womb a central part of specialisation.
